Day 227 - The Dr Phil Show Called Me!

Hello Fat and Fit Fans,

August 18, 2008  - Day 227

Yesterday was my birthday!

Anyway…
Yes, the Dr. Phil Show called me last week to tell me I did not
get a spot on the new Dr Phil Weightloss Challenge…

I auditioned on June 28 and have been going through
the audition process until last Thursday.

That’s why I have not been blogging and posting anything….
They had asked me to keep this under the radar for the
time being.

Cat’s out of the bag now!

I was actaully surprised at how dissappointed I was not
getting a spot on Dr. Phil’s The Weightloss Challenge…

It would have been a great opportunity for me…

6 weeks at a boot camp of sorts to focus 100%  on my
health and weightloss. I’ve been struggling with this for
the last 10 years.

However, through the process of auditioning for the
Challenge and reading a number of Dr. Phils books has
been a really good thing for me.

The biggest thing I realized was my problem with
gaining weight started in 1992. A number of things happened
in that year that turned my life upside down.

The result was the beginning of severe low self esteem which
lead to the beginning of my weight gain journey.

The process was an eye opening inventory of the
good bad and ugly in my life.

The first book I read by Dr Phil in this process was called:
“The Ultimate Weight Loss Challenge…
The 7 Keys To Weighloss Freedom.”

Excellent book! Bravo Dr Phil…

Over the coming weeks I’ll write about the things
I am discovering through this weight loss process.

Bottom Line…
I want to Thank the staff at The Dr Phil Show.
They are good people!

I will be using the formula Dr Phil laid out in his book
for at least 6 weeks. The exact time I was going to be away
on this Challenge.

Then I’ll re-evaluate…

Weather you are a fan of Dr. Phil or not, I am going to give
this a genuine effort. I haven’t been able to do this on my own
so, I may as well try Dr Phils approach.

I’ve got nothing to lose…

The 10 Major Health Risks Associated With Obesity - By Amy Nutt

Obesity is a condition that afflicts people all over the world.
Why is it called a condition? Well, it leads to many other
health conditions that can be debilitating or deadly.

In other words, the health problems associated with obesity
are numerous and nothing to sneeze at.

Take this into consideration:
Someone who is overweight by 40% is two times more likely to
die than someone who is of an average weight. Doctors will tell
you that a person is more likely to have health problems if
they are obese than someone who is an average weight.

Even someone who is 20% overweight can benefit from losing a
little bit of poundage. The experts say that anyone overweight
by 20% of their healthy bodyweight should lose some weight.

If they don’t then there are some risk factors to consider:

1. Heart disease and stroke. Both of these can be deadly and lead
   to heart attack or a stroke that can leave a person in a 
   vegetative state.

2. High blood pressure, which can lead to stroke and other
   health problems.
  
3. Diabetes,
which can lead to other health issues. Some people
   have lost legs, feet, and other extremities because of diabetes.
  
4. Different forms of cancer can come about.
There is not one
   known form of cancer that is specific to obese individuals
   because an obese individual becomes more susceptible to any
   form of cancer.
  
5. Gallbladder disease, gall stones, and kidney stones.
These are
   painful conditions that can lead to other problems.
  
6. Gout,
which is a painful condition that no one really wants.7. Osteoarthritis can restrict a person’s movement even more than they are already restricted
being obese. It is also very painful and debilitating.
  
8. Breathing issues such as sleep apnea.
A person with sleep apnea
   stops breathing for short periods in their sleep. Some have been
   found to stop breathing completely.
  
9. Blood clots are common in those who are obese.
These blood clots
   form in the legs. They can eventually move to other places of the
   body such as the lungs, which results in a pulmonary embolism.
  
10.
It is even said that obesity increases the risk that someone will
   develop Alzheimer’s,
which is a condition that no one wants to
   ever have to deal with.
  
There are other factors that can make an obese individual more
susceptible to these conditions.
However, susceptibility doesn’t
mean that the disease has to be dealt with.Those with an apple shaped body are more susceptible to these
health risks. It also doesn’t help them much if there is a family
history of these diseases or if there are pre-existing medical
conditions.

However, losing weight can reduce the risk.
A person shouldn’t say things such as, “Well, my family has a history
of it anyway.” Your family may have a history, but weight gain could
be the one trigger that causes the onset of that condition.

That is why it is important to lose weight.
Doctors say that losing as little as 10 to 20 pounds packs substantial
health benefits.

Cholesterol levels and blood pressure can be lowered. The risk of heart
disease and stroke can also be lowered. Heart disease and stroke is
the number one killer of people who are obese.

Just a small amount of weight loss can take you farther away from
being a statistic. It is all a matter of not being that person who
believes they are the exception to the obesity rule.

Eventually, everyone who is obese for long periods of time will
experience one of the health risks.

Understand if you maintain a healthy body weight by using a BMI
calculator. Learn what your body shape can mean to your health by
using a waist- to- hip ratio calculator.

Day 191 - I Lost 4 Pounds!

July 11, 2008 - Day 191

Got to the gym nice and early this morning…
I wasn’t in a rush to get back to work…

Vickie came with me this morning. She went swimming.

The biggest change in my treadmill exercise is
taking my hands off the handles as I walk.

It is definitly more difficult to walk the treadmill
on an incline with holding the handles.

Day 190…Back on Track

Hi Fat and Fit Fans,

July 10, 2008…Day 190

Today I didn’t make it to the gym but did walk around my neighborhood.

I was sweating up a storm. By non it had hiy 110 degrees…

I had 2 protein shakes and a Ceasar salad..

I’ll be back at the gym in the morning…

Hi Fat and Fit Fans,

It is July 9, 2008.
Day 189 on this Weight Loss Journey…

This blog weight loss journey started on January 1, 2008
and I thought by now I would’ve lost a godd 70-100 pounds.
It has been a journey and contiues to be so…

The fact is I got down to 320 lbs. and have gained
most of it back.

Today I weighed in at 340lbs.

I am re-committing…Again!!!

Some people have asked me why I post my results.
Isn’t it embarressing? It’s not what i would call fun…
The reason I am doing this is that it is one way
of me being accountable.

So with that in mind…

I weighed in today at: 340 lbs.

Exercise………..
Treadmil:

Calories - 195
Distance - 1.06 Miles
Average Speed- 2.70 MPH
Average Heart Rate - 108

I also got a little treadmil tip from trainer Zoe Albright.
She saw me on the treadmil and told me not to hold onto
the handles…I have always held onto the handles since
I started. Not holding onto the handles makes it harder!

Starting Today…
I am starting another challenge for myself.
From July 9, 2008 To December 31 2008.
That’s about 180  days…Roughly 6 months.

Todays Weight:
July 9, 2008 - 340 lbs:

6 Month Weight Loss Challenge Goal:
December 31, 2008 - 260 lbs

That’s 80 lbs…

My Ultimate Goal weight - 185 lbs

Day 175…Should I Apply For the Dr. Phil Show?

Hi Fat and Fit Fans,

Today is June 25, 2008
Day 175…

Last week I was working at an event all week and
in the midst of that injured my left knee. So, I
couldn’t work out, again…

I am seeing patterns here.
I get off to a good start and get some momentum and then
something knocks me off my path.

Up and down and the Yo Yo continues
Vickie my girlfriend is always trying to help me how ever she can.

Bottom line is, I haven’t been able to stay consistent for more
than 30 days at a time.  I need help and don’t know what kind
of help I need.

I know I need to consistently make better food choices and exercise consistently.

My friend Scott Sanchez called me today and said that Dr. Phil was
looking for people that wanted to do his weight loss challenge.

Hey, I tried and sent out my tape to The Biggest Loser a while back
and they never even called or wrote any kind of response. I sent a video
2x.

Should I try Dr. Phil?
The good news is, it seems to be taking place in Las Vegas
which is good. I just don’t know what kind of time committment they are
looking for. I got to keep working to pay my bills.

As I’m writing this post, I realize I’ve got nothing to lose and everything
to gain. Yes I have a team of people that want to help me but most of
them are out of town.

Well, I am going to the gym in the morning and starting all over again.
And then, I’ll apply to Dr Phil Show.

I hate the idea of being embarrassed on national TV about
my weight but if it works, who cares.  I need help.

Ok Dr. Phil…I challenge you.
Help me take my health back and lose 100 pounds so I can climb Mt Kilimanjaro!
