Robby’s Health Journey
I started this websiteI think in back in 2008 and every year since 2005 on January 1st my goal was to lose 100 pounds. Today is August 6, 2011 and for the first time since starting my health journey in 2005, I am on target for making the first goal of losing 100 pounds. In May of 2010 I weighed 360 pounds. As of this update, I’ve lost 76 pounds so far.
History:
I wasn’t always a big/fat guy. Growing up first in New Jersey and then Connecticut I was very active in sports and or running around. I loved to move and be active. I was always playing baseball, football, or basketball. Went to Dan Gable wrestling camp in 9 th grade. I wrestled 112lbs in High School until 11th grade at which time I turned my focus to practicing my guitar.
My activity level slowed after high school. However, due to some serious health issue in 1981 I started studying and practicing Tai Chi Chuan. I consistently practiced for about 8-10 years. Then from 1992 I got caught up in life and stopped working out. By now I was starting to take high blood preassure medication. Stopped doing all the health practicies I knew to be good for my health.
My significant weight gain did not start until I moved from Connecticut to the west coast in 1997…
I quit smoking in 1997 and about 6 months later I realized I had gained 50 pounds. Then I started smoking again. Then shortly after that realized now I was just a Fat Smoker! So I quit smoking again, and then over the next 5 years gained an additional hundred pounds!
As all that was happening, I changed my eatting and physical exercise habbits. I started working behind the computer 10-12 hours a day. I wasn’t active any more. Plus, it wasn’t fun to be
active anymore. It was work, a lot of work just to walk and move around.
Then 3 weeks before the attack on 9/11 I started the Atkins diet the first time and lost about 31 pounds. The weight flew off my body.
That evening of 9/11 I turned to Vickie and said we’re going to get attacked I want Chinese food. So we went to PF Changs for dinner!
I have been on a roller coaster ever since. I did break 300 lbs for about 2 days in 2005 and then balloned up to my all time high weight of 360 pounds in May of 2010.
Then August 8, 2010 my life changed. I entered Shades of Hope Rehab clinic for my eatting disorder.
Well that’s the short story..
